Frequently Asked Questions

Why choose multidisciplinary treatment?

Over time, spinal conditions and join pain can develop. These joints are comprised of multiple anatomical structures (muscles, ligaments, cartilage lining the joint & tendons). These structures become damaged – many times from degeneration – and lose their ability to function normally. Patients usually experience better results when multiple specialists treat each aspect of their condition. Chiropractors focus on aligning and improving the vertebrae – easing the tension that results from herniated discs, inflamed facet joints, and other compression issues. Physical Therapists, on the the other hand, rehab compromised muscles, ligaments and tendons while massage therapist break up scar tissue and minimize tension in contracted, shortened muscles. With these three specialties working in tandem, you benefit – pain is lessened and health is restored faster.

Does every patient need multiple specialists?

Typically, a patient will only require a single specialist. For example: if you suffer from muscular pain and tension, you may only see a massage therapist. If shoulder or knee pain is present, then one of our medical practitioners or therapist would be recommended. We discuss the symptoms, examine each patient thoroughly, then suggest a treatment regimen. Your input is an invaluable part of our process.

What is chiropractic?

Chiropractic is a holistic, drug-free, non-invasive, hands-on approach to wellness. Chiropractic is founded on the fact that your body is a self-healing, self-regulating organism guided by the brain, spinal cord and your nerves. This healthcare discipline is a combination of science, philosophy and art. The science looks at the relationship between the body’s function and structure – the philosophy focuses on the body’s self-healing abilities – the art is the hands-on technique our doctors learn through time and experience.

Vertebral Subluxations are small misalignments in the spinal column that interfere with normal functions in the nervous system. In most cases, decreased mobility, pain and inflammation occur when the spine is misaligned. These misalignments can cause pain and dysfunction throughout the entire body. Chiropractic practice focuses on locating and correcting these spinal sublaxations to get your body functioning properly again.

Do I need chiropractic treatment?

Chiropractic care is not just for treating pain. Many of our patients receive regular chiropractic care, claiming that it improves athletic performance, focus, vitality as well as general health and well being. Chiropractic care has also been found to slow spinal degeneration. Our chiropractors are highly trained professionals who are skilled in detecting and correcting spinal subluxations.

What is holistic medicine?

Holistic medicine is a form of healthcare that considers every aspect of a person's life – not just the issue of pain. Holistic doctors use all forms of health care, from conventional medication to alternative options. For example, a holistic doctor would take a patient suffering from migraines and examine all variables that may be triggering the headaches, such as diet, sleep habits, stress, as well as conventional medical approaches. The benefit to a holistic health care approach is that a larger picture of the cause of pain is created when we're able to analyze multiple areas of your life.

Do I need physical therapy?

Every patient has different needs. And physical therapy benefits patients who suffer from orthopedic conditions. Most sports and active-lifestyle injuries fall into this category: torn rotator cuff, post-arthoscopic knee and shoulder survey, carpal tunnel syndrome, tennis elbow as well as knee injuries (ACL/PCL & minis cal inures). If you need to strengthen and/or increase the flexibility of injured muscles and joints, physical therapy will help you reach your rehabilitation goals.

Do I need massage therapy?

Most of our patients receive massage therapy at Pain & Wellness Group. Massage therapy is an integral part of your wellness care experience. Many times, after one of our doctors have diagnosed the source of your pain or discomfort, your next step is massage therapy. Many of our treatment plans include massage therapy because your body’s soft tissue, including skin, muscles, tendons, ligaments, and fascia all benefit greatly from the increase in blood and lymph flow that results from medical massage. All of our massages take place in a calm, relaxing environment and last 30 to 60 minutes, depending on your condition. There is a growing awareness of the value of wellness and preventive care in our culture and many muscle, joint tension and stress-related issues can be prevented with massage therapy.

What should I expect at my initial visit?

The first thing we’ll have you do is fill out a few forms – we’ll need to get you in our system to properly track your care. Then we’ll go over insurance coverage and discuss financial arrangements related to your treatment. After that, you’ll meet with one of our doctors to review your health history followed by an examination to diagnose and recommend a treatment. This consultation can take up to 30 minutes depending on your condition. This process helps our doctor determine what course of action will best serve your treatment. If x-rays are needed, our in-office, digital radiography system can provide them immediately. If an MRI is needed, however, we will refer you to the nearest facility.

Do you take x-rays on-site and are they safe?

Yes! We perform all of our x-rays on-site. We utilize the safest state-of-the-art technology called Digital Radiography (DR). DR is superior to conventional x-ray machines as it minimizes patient radiation exposure by 70-80%. Despite the level of safety, we will not take x-rays unnecessarily. These digital x-rays are ready in minutes and can be put on CD or emailed so any other healthcare professionals can review them. Any other advanced imaging scans, such as MRI, ultrasound, CT scans and nuclear bone scans are referred outside of our office.

Do you accept health insurance?

We accept most health insurance plans including: United Health Care, CIGNA, Blue Cross Blue Shield, and Aetna. PPO plans are ideal as they allow you to benefit from all of the services we offer.
Several of our healthcare providers are in network for some of these plans. We also accept many No-Fault plans. We encourage you to call us with specific questions about your health insurance plan or check to see if any of our specialists are in network providers listed on your health insurance website. We're always happy to discuss how to handle deductibles, coinsurance or co-payments with you. We also offer several payment options.

When would I be referred to another provider?

As a holistic healthcare provider, we focus on conservative treatment. There are times that additional methods, combined with our holistic approach is most beneficial. Normally we can identify if additional care will be needed early in your treatment process.

Do you have a doctor's office near me?

Yes! We have two locations, and more opening soon. Check back to see when we'll be in your neighborhood!
